"Water was at the origin of mankind. Water is the survival of humanity” Rodier, "Lánalyse de l’eau" 1978
Water is essential to life and has been essential to humanity from the beginning of time because it has unequalled properties that cure sickness and protect life. Today, now that environmental issues are being raised throughout the world, more and more countries are aware of the wealth of natural waters (from springs and underground sources) and the need to protect their purity.
Around 75% of the human body is made up of water, and to compensate daily loss a person must drink around 2 litres of water a day.
SUMOL+COMPAL includes in its range of brands Água Serra da Estrela (an excellent quality spring water with mineral and medicinal properties, collected in the heart of the Serra da Estrela Nature Reserve at over 1,200 metres in altitude) and Frize (a carbonated mineral water collected 200 metres underground in the region of Vila Flor, in Trás-os-Montes).
"Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.” Benjamin Franklin.
Beer is a healthy drink that for thousands of years has played an important role in the diet of mankind. The origin of beer is lost in time and space. It is one of the world’s oldest drinks, but it is not known whether its inventors discovered it by chance or whether it was the result of careful experimentation and lengthy tasting.
The bitter flavour of beer has stood the test of time. Around nine thousand years ago the peoples of the Orient, between the Tigris and the Euphrates, had already tasted the nectar prepared from fermenting cereals. It is known that 5,500 years ago the Indians and Chinese also drank it and that in Egypt it became known as a national drink.
The first beer as we know it today was produced in the thirteenth century by monks in a monastery in France. The first breweries appeared in the Middle Ages when many monasteries became important supply centres.
Today, white, black or red, with or without an alcohol content, beer is one of the most popular drinks in the whole world and in some cases, more than just a pleasure, drinking beer is a ritual.
SUMOL+COMPAL includes in its range the brands Tagus and Grolsch, both natural beers, produced according to German legislation on purity, using only three natural ingredients: water, malt and hops.
