The idea to bottle water from the Vidoeira source, located on the Castro estate, where there are ancient, pre-Roman stone ruins, came from the quality and purity of the water that has served to quench the thirst of all those who over the years knew to drink from it. In 1980 the first analyses were done at the Ricardo Jorge Institute, in Lisbon, and after 4 years mineral and medicinal qualities were attributed to one water qualified as being spring water
In 1985, a start was made to building a production plant. Sasel, Sociedade de Águas da Serra da Estrela S.A., was incorporated in 1986 with the mission of “exploiting and preparing water resources ready for bottling to a standard of excellence, in line with market needs and opportunities”.

With a view to widening horizons and gaining new markets, the industrial unit at Sasel was extended in 1988. Infrastructure was improved and investment was made in bottling lines and licensing for new water sources.
